The final twist

I have finally cast off the last twist of my handknitted spiral scarf and I am hoping to try this technique of partial knitting on the knitting machine. Now the only question is- to felt or not to felt??

Noisy visitors

A very noisy flock of about 100 of these wild corellas spent the day in my back garden feasting on the neighbour's almonds and my unripe apples and then throwing them on to the ground. It was really spectacular, and my neighbour's attempts at looking scary and making noises to save his nuts were almost as entertaining as the antics of the birds!!

Happy New Year of the Rabbit

Meet Eric- a rescued pet rabbit who now resides on my back verandah. He has not been enjoying all the hot weather but has still managed to chew through 2 power cords and 3 pot plants this week!!
Happy new year of the rabbit!

Too hot for knitting

After 2 days of 40 degrees, my plans to finish hand knitting this twisted spiral scarf failed. It really is too hot to knit! I am hoping a weekend cool change will be enough inspiration to finish the last few spirals as it has been on the needles since last winter!.

hand knitting

I have been practicing my hand knitting with some of Lesley Stanfield's knitted flowers.
As a hand knitting beginner, the 'basic' patterns were easy to follow,
I even managed the scary bits of the pattern like ssk and ssk2tpo!!
and after much practice I can also do a french knot!
My new year's resolution is to learn how to crochet so I can try some of the beautiful crochet flowers.

Rediscovering the pom pom

I have been rediscovering the pom pom,
For the classic round pom pom, I found the technique I learnt in primary school still works the best- two circles of card, or similar, with a hole in the middle- my experiments with commercially available 'pom pom makers' made shaggy or slightly rectangular pom poms. Now what to do with a room full of pom poms??
